David and I are celebrated our 7-year anniversary this week, and it’s hard to believe that everything started with online dating!
After a month or so of emailing through Match.com, David and I met for our first date on November 16, 2008. We met at Tiny Boxwoods for a Sunday lunch, and talked about our dogs and traveling (of course!).
Fast forward 16 months later, and we are saying our vows on a glorious day (March 27th) in Houston, with a reading of Robert Frost:
THE MASTER SPEED
No speed of wind or water rushing by
But you have speed far greater. You can climb
Back up a stream of radiance to the sky,
And back through history up the stream of time.
And you were given this swiftness, not for haste,
Nor chiefly that you may go where you will,
But in the rush of everything to waste,
That you may have the power of standing still —
Off any still or moving thing you say.
Two such as you with master speed
Cannot be parted nor be swept away
From one another once you are agreed
That life is only life forevermore
Together wing to wing and oar to oar.
~ Robert Frost (1874-1963), American poet
And now, 7 years later, we have traveled to 29 countries together and have put 20,000 miles under Starry Horizons’ keel. It sounds hard to imagine spending so much time with someone. 26 days at sea with just two people? Yikes! Cruising and sailing is a great way to test a relationship!
We have our moments, but most of the time, cruising with David is pretty easy. I’m so glad to have him with me; I can’t imagine seeing the world with anyone else!
