It seems like Miami will become a important city to the Admiral and I, as well as Starry Horizons. The plan is currently for the final commissioning of our boat to be done in the city at our dealers base of operations. Since this will likely take a few weeks, we’ve talked about potentially living in the city for a while in order to be close to the action and so that I can help out and continue to get familiar with our boat. My thought process is that the more I know the boat and her systems, the easier it will be to maintain and fix them when things will break. Seems like sound logic to me.
The other reason is that Miami is home to the Miami International Boat Show. This show is coming up quickly and is over the Valentine’s Day weekend. And while we haven’t yet committed to going, it seems like there would be a lot of advantages for trying to go.
- Proximity to our dealer's home base, meaning we could see the facilities and meet the people who will be working on our boat
- Check out the lay of the land in order to start thinking about where we may want to stay if we spend any extended time in the city
- Lots of boat stuff
Our trip to Annapolis was primarily intended to shop for boats, and while that trip was a great success, there are now lots of more things to look at and consider. I’d like to get back on another Helia and take an even closer look around. Since I’ve now had several months to do research, being able to take specific measurements with an eye towards equipment we now know we want to install would be extremely helpful. And even getting additional pictures/video would be nice.
In addition to just getting on another Helia, I would find immense benefit from being able to being able to go and talk to other vendors in person. While we wandered around the tents in Annapolis, we didn’t know quite what we wanted, and now we have the benefit of months of additional research. The things I’d like to go get a look at include:
- All the other misc boat stuff
Miami seems like it would be a good fit time wise and should be a large enough show that most of the vendors we’d be interested to see should be there. If anyone has some tips to share about visiting the show, we’d love to hear them. Now if only I can find my old Will Smith CD with Miami on it, we’ll be all set!
