Video: We Found Paradise in Kauehi!
It’s new video day! We discovered paradise on Earth in the atoll of Kauehi in the Tuamotus. Crystal clear blue water, sandy beaches, palm trees everywhere and hanging out with friends made this one of our favorite stops yet!
Another great video guys. Thanks for sharing your adventures. I wanted ask how you find handling SH with just the two of you? I would be interested to see a post about how you manage day to day chores, such as watch schedules on passages, maintenance and provisioning etc.
thank you.
Thanks for the ideas! Amy said she’ll make a note to do a more detailed post about that when we have free time in New Zealand, but I’ll give you a quick answer now.
Overall, it’s pretty easy to handle SH with just the two of us. We’ve worked hard to make sure we’re both comfortable basically single handing her. Day to day, things are pretty standard along the “blue” and “pink” jobs line. Amy does most of the cooking/cleaning inside/provisioning, I handle most of the repairs/maintenance/cleaning outside. On long passages, we have things set up so that we get about 6-7 hours of sleep at night and then nap as needed during the day. I don’t operate very well on 3-4 hours of sleep at a time.
Hope that helps!
Thanks for such a quick response Dave. Great work. Are you heading to australia after NZ? If so do let us know, would be great to meet you and show you around a few places on land. Regards Darren and Jennifer.
Haha, well the truth is, you caught me in a good moment of decent internet connection. Can’t quite promise the same speedy response all the time. 🙂
We are indeed planning on heading to Australia after NZ. Looking to sail first to Sydney sometime around April and then working our way up the coast. We’re taking part in the Indonesia Rally that leaves from Darwin in July. Definitely let us know if something in there works and we would love to meet you guys!
Thats sounds fun. We’re in Melbourne, but we love Sydney and just returned from there, so we won’t need much of an excuse or prompting to head up there for a long weekend. 🙂
Excellent! Well definitely stay in touch and hopefully we can make it happen!
OMG….the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen either. Thank you for enduring the four day long trek to share this little paradise wonder with all of us.
Thanks for giving me a Friday after break from the desk job to enjoy this most amazing video that brought huge smiles to my face.
Always happy to help provide a distraction from work! 😀
